Anonymous Hacker Hits Arizona Boarding School. Hacker AnonAntidote recently defaced the Web site of Arizona’s Oak Creek Ranch School, a boarding school for teenagers with ADD and ADHD. According to Softpedia’s Eduard Kovacs, the defacement, which lasted for approximately 10 hours, was part of Anonymous’ Operation Liberation, aimed at protesting abuse of teenagers at educational institutions. The hacker also leaked the school’s mailing list, made of over 300 records, which indicate that he had gained access to the organization’s databases. In a message posted on the site’s front page, the hacker criticized Oak Creek Ranch School for making money off the naïve, the lazy and the misguided parents while not having qualified staff for treating or educating teens and lowering self-esteem of the teens. Operating liberation was launched back in August 2011 and has made a lot of victims since.
Most hackers including Anonymous Operations use distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks as a tool ultimately to access to internal documents, passwords, and files of the target company. There are some basic strategies which can be used to defend against such attacks. First, companies should configure routers and firewalls securely to stop invalid IP addresses and filter out improper protocols. An Intrusion-detection/prevention system also can detect suspicious traffic and stop such traffic. Finally, establishing an incident response plan in place is important. If an attack comes, everyone should know how to respond and who to contact both inside and outside the organization. 2nd article: 10/10
